Shelter for Homeless - Inclusive Design Research Studio
A pandemic hit the human race last year and left an indelible mark in every stratum possible. In the syntax of architecture, it hit the foundation of both finance and personal life. With no money, there cropped yet another reason for homelessness. This project at Fillmore, Buffalo aims to reduce it by providing shelter and basic amenities of life in collaboration with Compass House. The planning not only serves as home but also instills a sense of community in people. The spaces created serve the permanent as well as temporary residents and helps them develop skills to support themselves and to be independent as they are mentored by individuals who have gone through homelessness. The façade reflects the African American culture which is inspired by the African quilt work sending a message of warmth, as the community remains “stitched” together through landscape.
